Church History:
The Myers, Addlemans and the Reynolds families came to Cottonwood in 1968 to begin a Southern Baptist work.  They began meeting at the Joseph and Patsy Addleman home. In 1969, with an average Sunday School attendance of about 22, they decided to organize as a bonafide church.  The first pastor was Rev. Jim Myers.  Property was purchased in November of 1969  for $1,100.  Even though just a ‘baby” herself, Emmanuel under the leadership of Rev. Jim Myers became the mother of other area churches.  From a book entitled “Southern Baptist in the Intermountain West, 1940-1989” by E. W. Hunke, we find that between 1968 and 1972 Emmanuel “mothered” five area churches (Riggins, New Meadows, Kamiah, Grangeville and Weippe).  The church closed it’s doors from 1986 to 1990.  Pastor Randy Myers (Pleasant View Baptist Church) felt led to re-open the doors at Emmanuel, leading services until 1994 when Pastor Dugan was called.  Emmanuel Baptist Church constitutes January 30, 1999.   Between 2006 and 2007, a new sanctuary was built.  Shortly after that, a breezeway was built connecting the old sanctuary to the new sanctuary.
